My Favourite Thing - Week 1

The children have had a busy first week learning lots of new routines, making new friends, exploring their new learning environments. They all picked one thing that was their favourite. As you can see, the home area is quite a hit. I hope the children do this much help with chores at home!!

Our First Week -September 2022

Reception have had a great first week. They are picking up all their new routines and have been exploring their new learning environments. The morning children have also been to their first assembly and tried our yummy school dinners. We can't wait for next week. Well done everyone.

Our Second Week - September 2022

This week Reception have learnt some more routines. They now know how to keep safe if there is a fire alarm. They've met Mrs Hypolite who is going to teach them lots of great songs in the future and have continued to show Mrs Bowman and Mrs Hulton how much they know. The week has gone really quickly. Not long now till we are all together as a full class.

Our First Week Altogether - September 2022

This week we came together as a full class. We made lots of new friends and explored some new activities together.

We all took part in a sponsored mile and made a scarecrow for the Kearsley Scarecrow festival. We made a horse called Peggy. Peggy was the Queen's first ever horse. We hope it is not too wet for Peggy at the weekend!

Harvest Faces - September 2022

This week we talked about harvest and made our own harvest faces. They made us all smile!

Our Year 6 Buddies -  October 2022

We met our Year 6 buddies today. We loved meeting them and missed them as soon as they left our classroom! We can't wait to spend some more time with them this term.

Our First School Disco - October 2022

Reception danced and ate tonight at their first disco!! Thank you to all the children that danced with me. We had a great time together. I think some children will sleep well tonight!

Our Harvest Service - October 2022

Reception were super grown up during our harvest service today. they walked carefully to church carrying their donations for the food banks. They then sang and danced during the service. Well done Reception. Mrs Bowman and Mrs Hulton were very proud of you.

Fireworks - November 2022

This week we had lots of firework fun. It was all very safe! We found out all about Guy Fawkes and why we celebrate bonfire night. We made some firework pictures on the computer, made some chalk firework pictures using a smudging technique and moved like fireworks responding to different instruments. We also made some fruity fireworks, rhyming rockets and had our own pretend bonfire and firework display!

Our Nativity - December 2022

Wow! We are all so proud of the class today. They all did amazingly in their first nativity. It is a huge thing to get up and perform in front of an audience and we could not have been prouder of all the children.

We were also thinking about the three children who were such a big part of our performance as they tried so hard in all our practices but were unwell today. We missed you lots. When the children return to school we will take a photograph of them in their costume as they had worked so hard on their role.

Thank you to all the parents and families who helped with costumes, helped learn lines and listened to nativity songs being sung frequently over the last few weeks! We couldn't do it without you.

Below are some individual pictures taken just before our afternoon performance and then some that were kindly forwarded.

Here are the missing people from our Nativity who were still such a big part of our practices. You still had chance to dress up! Freddie is here too. I am sorry Freddie. Somehow I missed your photo when I put the others on!

Christmas Party Day - December 2022

Reception had a great day today. We sang songs, danced, played games, ate some yummy food and to top it all, we actually met Father Christmas. He came to our classroom. He had received our letter. We were super lucky because he brought us everything that was on our wish list for the classroom. He also brought us all our own individual treat. Thank you Father Christmas and thank you PTA for telling him all about us!

Chinese New Year / Lunar New Year - January 2023

Reception had lots of fun finding out all about Chinese New Year. They heard a story about how each year gets its name. This year is going to be the year of the rabbit.

They had a week full of craft activities. They wrote in Chinese, made lanterns, used chopsticks, make dragon puppets, made a class dragon, made rabbit masks, took part in a dragon dance and created their own music.

To complete the week, they tasted some Chinese food, including seaweed! A lot of children thought it was yummy!

School Disco - February 2023

Reception have been so excited about the disco and it did not fail to impress! Reception ate lots, drank lots and tried to teach Mrs Bowman some dance moves. She wasn't as good as Reception. Well done guys. You were great disco dancers.

Meeting Some Real Firefighters! - February 2023

We have been finding out all about people who help us and have been talking about keeping ourselves safe. Today, Reception met some real life firefighters! Everyone was super excited. We recognised one of the firefighters. It was Teddy's Daddy, Fireman Sam!

Fireman Sam told us all about being a firefighter. Mrs Bowman had a race with one of Fireman Sam's friends. The class timed how long it took them to put on the uniform. Mrs Bowman won but we think the firefighter was just being kind! The uniform was very warm and heavy.

Then we went outside to look around the engine. Everybody squirted some water and had a go at going inside the engine.

We had such a fantastic morning. Thank you to Sam and all his friends. We are now busy making you a little surprise to say thank you!

African Landscape Natural Collages - March 2023

In class we have been talking about features of the natural environment in Africa. We have talked about the grasslands, the rainforest and deserts. We know that the longest river is called the Nile.

We created our own representations of the landscape using natural resources from outside.

Some of us represented all the features we had talked about. We even added some villages (represented by stones!)

Easter - April 2023

We had a great final day of term. The children all attended our Easter church service at the start of the day and then the afternoon began with our colourful 'Easter Bonnet Parade'.

Minibeast Hunt - April 2023

Reception have been hunting for minibeasts with their Year 6 buddies.

They found lots in the dark, damp places.

STEM Afternoon - June 2023

Reception were involved in three activities this afternoon:

Creating a boat that would float - Led by Mrs Bowman.

Creating a clock tower structure - Led by Miss Barton

Creating a bridge to cross a river - Led by Mrs Delaney.

There were some great creations and more importantly, some great collaborations and teamwork.

Sports Day - June 2023

A great big well done to all of Reception. They were fantastic during their first school sports day. Lots of members of staff commented on the excellent behaviour and effort. Thank you to all the families who came and supported us.

Knowsley Safari Park Buddy Trip - July 2023

We had a great time with our buddies today on our summer trip. We saw lots of animals. Thank you buddies for helping us to have such a great day.
