Our Favourite Things In The First Week - September 2019
Reception have been meeting new friends this week and learning lots of new things. They have enjoyed using their new classroom and are beginning to learn how to put away their new things in the right places!
Eating In Reception! - September 2019
Lunchtimes and making our own snack have been big hits in Reception. We are learning how to look after our own trays at lunch and have made toast in the classroom. Yummy.
Harvest Faces - September 2019
Reception had lots of fun making harvest faces. We think they look very funny.
Our Scarecrow - September 2019
Reception are very proud of their scarecrow. They can't stop hugging him!
Cakes With A Healthy Twist - September 2019
Today we were talking about making cakes with a healthy twist! We thought about all the different types of things that we could put inside to make it a little bit more healthy. We agreed on carrots.
Grandparent Morning - October 2019
Thank you to everybody who was able to join us this morning. The children loved sharing grandparents! I am sorry to all the grandparents that got shown outside. You were great leaf collectors though!
Making Houses - October 2019
As part of our 'Ourselves' topic, we have started to talk about homes and different types of houses. We have been making houses all round the classroom. Some people drew houses on white boards, some made lego houses, some made play dough houses. There were other children drew houses using crayons. The photographs and drawings are going to be used later in the week. The children are going to write about what type of house they made. If your child's photograph is not included below I am afraid they must have drawn a picture with crayons, which went straight in to their books.
Fingers crossed it stops raining soon because next week we are hoping to be 'house hunters' and go on a house hunting walk.
First School Disco - October 2019
Reception loved their first disco. They danced and ate all night long.
Our House Hunting Walk - October 2019
Reception took part in some geography fieldwork (understanding the world) this morning. They are practiced their sketching skills. We went looking for different types of houses in our local area. Some children were disappointed that we did not see a barge or a mud hut!
Firework Week - November 2019
We have had lots of colourful fun in Reception this week. We have made fruity fireworks, danced like fireworks, sung firework songs with instruments, made rhyming rockets, painted pictures of fireworks with paint and on the computer. We even watched a firework show in the classroom, round a bonfire with marshmallows!
Remembrance - November 2019
Reception have been talking about why we wear poppies. They made some big class poppies that they displayed outside school. These were made out of their handprints. Then they made their own individual poppies that they wore to church for a service on Remembrance Day. They went with their buddies. All the teachers were very proud of how respectful Reception and Yr 6 were.
Reception Advent Assembly - November 2019
Reception were fantastic in their Advent assembly today. They Sang their hearts out and were able to say their lines in front of all their parents. Well done guys.
A copy of the powerpoint used in the assembly can be fund on the 'Reception Class' homepage.
Author Visit - January 2020
The author and illustrator Sean Perkins came to visit Reception today. He was fantastic. The children listened so carefully when he retold his story 'Oscar and Ben'. He was very impressed that we had an Oscar and two Ben's in our class. Then the children met the story characters, asked Sean some questions, coloured some pictures and had some books signed. Receptions behaviour was brilliant and Sean said he had had a great time at our school. He wanted us to send thanks to all the families that purchased books.
Chinese New Year - January 2020
The children have loved focusing on Chinese New Year. We discovered that this year is the year of the rat. We have taken part in lots of activities: Using chopsticks, writing in Chinese, making Chinese music, making lanterns, making lucky money envelopes, making cherry blossom trees, making a class dragon and small dragon puppets. We even did a dragon dance but the dragon get chasing Mrs Bowman! We completed our celebrations by tasting some Chinese food...including seaweed!
