Chinese New Year Preparations - Day One. January 2017.

This week we are finding out all about Chinese New Year. This year is going to be the year of the rooster. We heard the story about the animals racing across the river, made rooster masks, used chopsticks and practiced doing some Chinese writing. We can't wait for the rest of the week.

Chinese New Year Preparations - Day Two. January 2017.

Continuing our preparations we talked about the dragon dances that are often seen during celebrations. We made our own mini dragon puppets and then started to make a large class dragon that we will use during our celebrations on Friday. We also discussed lucky Chinese envelopes. These are given to children during Chinese New Year and contain a golden coin. We might have had a slight variation on the golden coin!!!

Chinese New Year Preparations - Day Three. January 2017

Today we talked about the lucky cherry blossom trees that go in the centre of the dinner table during Chinese new year and some children cut out pictures of the animals that were in the Emperors race and sequenced them in the right order.

Chinese New Year Celebration Day - January 2017.

Today we had a day celebrating new year. We started in the morning by doing dragon dances and creating Chinese music. Our class made dragon held strong! We then learnt how to speak some Chinese 'Kung hey fat choy" before going back outside to send of Chinese lantern up into the air. In the afternoon we did some Chinese food tasting. We had some egg fried rice, noodles, prawn crackers, vegetable spring rolls and ... seaweed, which received a mixed response from reception!

Testing our Vehicles - February 2017

We had lots of fun testing our vehicles today. We need to fix a couple along the way. They did not go quite as quick as reception had wanted them to go!

Pancake Day - February 2017

We had lots of fun today flipping pancakes. They all managed to stay in the pan. A visitor also came along to our classroom...Mr Southern is never far away when he knows there is food in Reception! Reverend Kim is going to be in school tomorrow telling the whole school more about the significance of Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday.

Manchester Music Trip - March 2017

Reception went on their first school trip today. They did the school proud. They were really well behaved.

I would not like to say which part of the trip they liked best, travelling around on the coach with their doodle book

or the actual music workshop! Well done reception, you were fab!

World Book Day - Little Miss and Mr Man Theme - March 2017.

This week we have been finding out all about Roger Hargreaves who wrote the Little Miss and Mr Men books. We have listened to his stories and chatted about which we like. Today we dressed up as some of his characters and even made special book marks with our buddies.

Science Day, Birds - March 2017

We had an exciting day today finding out all about pigeons. We then went on to talk about how we could look after birds. We made some fat balls. They did not smell too nice!!!!

Red Nose Day - March 2017

Reception have been excited about wearing their red clothes today for charity. They have been even more excited about seeing Mr Southern dressed up as a fairy!!!!

Our Magic Carpet Adventure - March 2017

Today we went on an adventure in PE. We went flying on a magic carpet to different lands. When we stepped of the carpet we turned into different animals. First we landed in elephant land, then monkey land and finally snake land. The children are eager for us to go on some more adventures next week.

We had to be careful on the magic carpet though. We put our seatbelts and helmets on and had to hold our breath when we went through the clouds! We even used our binoculars to look out for lands in the distance!

Easter Bonnet Parade - April 2017

Well done Reception. There were some fantastic creations on our 'Easter Bonnet Parade'.
