Our First Week At School.

We have had a great first week at school.

Well done Reception you are trying hard with our 'Reception Promises' and are making lots of new friends. I am looking forward to all the learning we are going to be doing together.

Reception have already started helping Percy to do the right things in class!

Our Second Week - September 2016

I think this week went even quicker than last week. We had some more pirates searching for different rooms around school, some children met our specialist music teacher Mrs Hypolite and we made our own toast snack with jam and lemon curd.

Jake tried to do some counting but he got muddled up again so we helped to teach him and we played a maths game on our interactive white board.

On Tuesday we celebrated Roald Dahl's 100th birthday. Then on Wednesday Reception thought I had gone a bit crazy because we started to make Christmas cards. I will explain the reason for this shortly. I promise there is a good reason!

I think everybody is looking forward to our first week all together next week and I am sure we will have lots of new photographs to share of us making new friendships and building scarecrows...

Making Our Scarecrow - September 2016

Once again our school are entering the 'Kearsley Scarecrow Festival'. This year the school have chosen to celebrate Roald Dahl's 100th birthday and have agreed on the theme of Charlie and Chocolate Factory. Each class were assigned a character from the story and have had lots of fun creating a straw scarecrow!

You will see the evidence from when Reception made their scarecrow all over their playground! We were assigned Violet who ends up turning purple and blows lots of bubble gum bubbles. I feel I need to explain this in case you are wondering why there is a balloon hanging from her very purple looking face!

If you manage to get around and see the scarecrows this weekend we hope you have lots of fun.

Jeans for Genes - September 2016

All the children did their part today helping to raise money. Well done Reception.

Harvest Faces - September 2016

I was standing in for Mr Moorhouse and Mr Southern at a headteacher meeting this morning for an hour so missed our first Harvest service in church. As soon as I returned to school though I was told how fantastic Reception had been in church. I was a very proud teacher. Well done Reception. Later in the day the children made some harvest faces.

Making Carrot Biscuits - October 2016

Today we tried to make biscuits with a slightly healthy twist! One suggestion the class made was to make broccoli biscuits but we decided to go with the carrot biscuit idea! Hope they tasted yummy.

'Drumz Aloud' - October 2016

What a great morning we had today. The drumming man from 'Drumz Aloud' came to visit our school. Reception were the first class to have a session today and wow, they were really impressive! We listened carefully to the instructions and had so much fun beating in time to the loud, funky music. We have some rhythm in Reception! I am not sure how Mrs Baines and Mrs Hesketh worked today in the office because the music was really loud. There were smiling faces all round the hall. We captured some of these on the photographs below. It was really good exercise as well. We were dancing away at the same time as banging our drums (balls!).

Our First PTS Disco In Reception - October 2016.

Friday night was rocking at school. Lots of Reception came along to their very first school disco. We took some pictures but to be honest we were having too much fun dancing. From the pictures you can also see we did a lot of eating!

Our House Hunting Walk - October 2016

We had lots of fun searching for different houses in our local area. We found a bungalow, a detached house, terraced houses and a flat. As we saw them we had a go at drawing them in our books.

Our Buddy Time - October 2016

Our buddies came to see us today and they read us some stories. Thank you buddies, we loved it!

Our Bonfire - November 2016

We had lots of fun at our bonfire today. We walked a long way around school to get to our bonfire. We all had to dress up warm and toasted marshmallows. We were also able to talk about how to keep safe at bonfires.

Multi Faith Week - November 2016

This week we have been finding out all about Sikhism. The week began with Simar's Aunt and Daddy coming into school and talking to us in a whole school assembly. Back in class we found out all about the five K's. We made things for a display in the classroom, composed a Five K's non fiction book and created Mehndi patterns using paint and pens. Then we shared our learning with our buddies at the end of the week. It was lots of fun.

Remembrance Church Service - November 2016

Today we talked about the importance of Remembrance Day and all made our own poppy. We then wore them with pride to the community church service. The buddies came up with us. Mrs Bowman was very proud of us all.

Planting With Mr Kidd - November 2016

Mr Kidd and his brother came to plant some plants with us. The weather was not very kind to us though and we got wet and muddy!

Maths Week - November 2016

This week is maths week in school. Through the week we are going to be doing lots of estimating games in class and looking at '1 more than' and '1 less than' problems. We are even creating some of our own word problem cards (with the help of Mrs Bowman!).

Today maths week began with some Year 6 children coming into class and teaching us '1 more than' with some games they had designed. They taught us for a little while and then had even made some crowns that they gave out as a reward at the end.

Mrs Bowman was a little worried that her job was at risk! Well done Year 6, you were fantastic today.

The Puzzle Company - November 2016

The puzzle company came to visit us in school today as part of our maths week. Reception are good at solving puzzles together as a team.

Reception Advent Assembly - November 2016

Thank you to all the parents who came to our advent. The children were amazing. We turned the lights down for atmospheric purposes but it meant the pictures did not all come out too well!!!

I will also post the power point that went along with the assembly. Well done everyone. What a lovely way to remember the real meaning of Advent.

Shape Spotting Around School - December 2016

We all went shape spotting around school with our shape telescopes.
